Inspiration - Alexander McQueen Fall 2016 Ready To Wear
I’ve always loved a little bit of bling. The obsession I
think comes from the women around me –whether it’s my mother’s obsession with
rings, my grandma’s extensive jewellery collection or my aunt’s impressive
selection of brooches. The latter especially was someone whose fashion sense I
always admired but often was unable to emulate. You see, while her intricate
brooches looked beautiful paired with her elegant saris, it was an accessory I
always thought limited to those over 40. That is, until Alexander McQueen proved
me wrong.
If you shatter the English dame vision that can often come attached
with brooches, you’re left with a very versatile piece of jewellery. And one
that caters to the minimalists and maximalists both. Let me give you some
examples to illustrate my point.
Say you’re wearing a print-on-print pant suit that’s really
a whole lot to take on, a delicate brooche can be the perfect subtle accessory.
Or, say you’re required to be quite glammed up but you can only find outfits
that are quite minimalist, add a cluster of brooches of different shapes and
sizes and you’re now that much more dressed up. You get the point.
As someone who prefers lighter fabrics and flowing cuts, I
generally veer away from purchasing anything that is too military inspired
despite finding them uber stylish. By adding these assortments of brooches to
my simple, well-cut black coat, I got to try my hand at a military style look
without having to invest in the whole shoulder-padded, star studded shebang. A
$15 pack of brooches and I’m set. I guess this is the reason I am loving the resurgence
of age-old jewellery, be it arm cuffs, chokers or now brooches. After all, they
were popular for a reason right?

Looking so beautifully majestic, your brooches make such a bewitching statement and you rock them so divinely! I love the starry vibes and the rich burgundy colour, so perfect for the Autumnal seasons up ahead. Your lipstick matches the hue perfectly and I'm crushing so hard on your beautiful self! You're 100% right, they're popular for good reason and it's brilliant to add pieces like this to make a statement whilst keeping it simple. All the babin' feels when it comes to brooches <3

I used to think brooches were for older ladies as well, but I really love how you incorporated yours into the outfit!

Super cute idea! I don't actually own any brooches, but they are totally coming back! A lot of designers are making them more. I love this idea because it's a cost effective way of styling something older in your wardrobe that maybe you've out-worn. Cute!

You look gorgeous, my dear! I love the brooches and I love that you drew inspiration from the ladies in your life (mom and grandma). Such a sweet story.

I love how your brooches and how you wore them are so "now". Looking at your outfit, I wouldn't really think they were brooches, they're so much a part of your outfit that it's perfect!
