A Winter's Day in Lake Louise, Canada
Sunday, October 09, 2016
I have always felt like an old soul, and when I visited Lake
Louise, I had the looks to match. The brightly coloured, turquoise water of Lake
Louise is supposed to be beautiful during summer but during the approximately eight months
of cooler weather, it transforms into an otherworldly winter wonderland and
tourists as well as locals, are quick to make the most of it even at the cost of
frozen hair and eyelashes.
If you’re ready to dish out the cash, stay at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise and get a real sense of the majestic landscape as the snow-capped
Rocky Mountains reflect on the frozen lake below. The atmosphere around Lake Louise can visually be described
as the lovechild of The Grand Budapest Hotel and Disney’s Frozen. Odd mixture I
know but let me explain. The Fairmont Hotel’s larger-than-life exterior and
mountain views evoke images of the former while the delicate ice castle looks like it could be Elsa’s handiwork with a horse
drawn sleigh adding to the charm.
Situated inside Canada's oldest national park and a UNESCO
World Heritage Site, Lake Louise is a popular spot for ice skating and skiing
and rightly so. However for us, the biggest draw was the natural beauty. The
lush woods, expansive mountains with the sprawling sky above and the occasional log cabin, all painted quite a Narnia-esque landscape.
