A Day at The Palace of Versailles, France

Almost every woman would remember a time in her life when she wished she was a princess. For me, the allure was driven entirely by one period drama I watched: Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette.

Now, the movie wasn't exactly a lesson in history but it had so much glitz and glamour that I dreamt of the day I'd walk through the halls of the Palace of Versailles, hopefully munching on macaroons and trying on immaculate dresses like my muse.

The dream came true during our trip to France when we took a day trip to a lovely town from Paris. The trip is relatively easy, with a straight train that takes about 60-90minutes and costs a very affordable 7 euros per person.

We descended on Versailles in a very packed train alongside hundreds of other tourists but thanks to the absolutely humongous palace grounds, it was easy to explore without feeling overwhelmed. We spent most of our day exploring the countless nooks and crannies of the opulent building and some of my favourite spots included the dazzling hall of mirrors, the Royal Opera and the room where Marie Antoinette would glam herself up with her countless assistants.

After exploring the palace, we headed to the expansive gardens that surround it. Golf buggies are available here for those who don't want to walk but we decided to head out on foot. There is so much to explore, it's impossible to get bored!

Lunch was at the cafe on the palace grounds where we enjoyed classics like French onion soup and omelettes before finishing off with some refreshing gelato.

This day trip is perfect for those who want to spend countless hours exploring without having to plot out separate activities and events during the day. And if your imagination is as wild as mine, you can spend most of the visit fantasising about being a princess while listening to the Marie Antoinette sound track in your head.
