Despite being twice ravaged by horrendous bushfires, this stunning little railway track still holds plenty of spark. Located near Lithgow, about two hours drive from Sydney, the Zig Zag railway was built in the 1860s but was significantly damaged in the 2013 bushfires and floods.

Then came more bad luck with the recent 2019 bushfires spoiling plans for a grand reopening planned for the year. But despite all the natural disasters, this beautiful sight remains a hidden gem just a day trip away from Sydney.

The walk to these viaducts takes you through some pretty wild bush with unmarked pathways and then a long walk along the train tracks. As beautiful and raw as the walk is, it's also easy to get lost among the wilderness. We got lost on the way and a one way trip that would have taken 30-40 mins ended up taking 2 hours. At the end of the day though it was truly worth it!

I'm hesitant to publish step by step directions to this place as it can be a little tough to get to plus with changing conditions and plans, it can also be dangerous. However if you hit me on my Instagram, I'm happy to help you find this secret little escape.
