The Federation Cliff Walk

Tuesday, November 21, 2017

Everyone knows about Bondi to Coogee, and it’s definitely the picture-perfect coastal walk but a lesser known alternative is the Federation Cliff walk or Watsons Bay to Bondi. Although this trail isn’t as varied and doesn’t offer the picturesque views as consistently as the Bondi to Coogee, it definitely has its moments. You start out at Watsons bay (to get there, take a ferry from Circular Quay) which is an incredibly charming and historical area with famous Insta-worthy cafes like the Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel and Dunbar House. The hilly area with views of the ocean and narrow alleyways was like a little piece of the Mediterranean right here in Sydney. From here you head to Gap Park which provides striking views of rugged ocean cliffs. You’ll end up spending a fair share of your time here, admiring and taking photos. The rest of the walk involves mostly walking along the coast through suburbs like Vaucluse, walking past Macquarie Lighthouse and at times being able to see the entire Sydney skyline, the Opera House, Harbour Bridge and more included. The trio together paint quite a pretty picture and makes you grateful for the beautiful city we live in (even if us millennials can’t afford houses here, at least we can enjoy our Avo toast while gazing at them). Technically speaking, the walk ends in Dover Heights but we continued onto Bondi to get a much needed meal at the Trio Café.  If you’re after some good views, a quiet walk minus any tourists or locals and don’t mind the lack of directions or markers then this is the perfect option for you.

  4. I love seeing houses on a cliff. Something about it is so picturesque and dreamy. I think that's why I fell in love with Positano when I saw it!

  8. These photos are so gorgeous, you have a skill. Honestly, if I took photos like this down at my local beach they would not turn out anywhere near this! Can I ask what you use to edit your photos? I've got to learn to get to this quality!

This walk seems amazing, and you're right that it all paints a pretty picture. It looks nice and warm over there as well haha, I'm in Wales where I'm freezing my butt off lmao!

    1. Thanks a lot love!! Means so much :)

I mostly edit with Lightroom, you HAVE to get it! I shoot in raw format and then edit in Lightroom after that sometimes I use a software called 'Photoscape' to brighten/deepen etc.

Wales has SO MUCH natural beauty! but yeh definitely colder than sydney haha. I'll be honest though, during this walk it was a BIT TOO SUNNY and gave me a headache because of the heat. haha next time gonna do these adventures when its a little less sunny haha
