Whilst prints, pastels and white take center stage in our summer wardrobes, it invariably turns into a sea of black and grey during winter. And while nothing can beat the charm of an all black outfit in winter, it can be a bit too monotonous for a fun weekend winter wardrobe.

With winter well and truly here in Sydney, the warm comfort of my bed has become my weekend haven now. So to make stepping outside bearable, we have two options: get extremely rugged up in big bulky sweaters/capes or the next best thing; warm rich colours that create a sense of warmth and fuzziness around us.

Don't get us wrong, we are all for breaking style norms and totally support that unique new purchase of yours. Yet, there is no denying, that incorporating these winter patterns and prints into a winter wardrobe cohesively, required some thought and effort, unless you happen to work in fashion or are a self-proclaimed hipster.

For me, putting together a chic look can easily be simplified by working with these four solid winter colours that hardly ever go wrong.

BURGUNDY
Burgundy instantly reminds me of crisp, autumn foliage and suits warm toned skin beautifully. Pairing it with a matching lipstick at night at once takes it up a notch to sultry. This colour is perfect to infuse some vibrancy in your look without worrying about any clashes or if it will pair up well.

NAVY
The more interesting version of black. An all-navy outfit oozes class and is the perfect alternative for cool toned skin. Do take care to not let it get dusty though as this colour is all about pristine perfection.

CAMEL
Camel is an option that is perfect for more casual or day events. It pairs well with any colour or if you're up for some fun, it is perfect for layering with different camel pieces for a very chic look.

BROWN
Brown is the perfect winter staple you need, the one that steps up when you don't want black anywhere around. From shoes and accessories to clothes, its the perfect backup colour to have on hand. A brown jacket can be thrown over any outfit without too much thought and the end result will likely be quite chic.

These four colours above are my fail safe winter options to keep me looking in trend yet be able to hit that snooze button in the morning. Case in point, the outfit above features all of the aforementioned colours yet they pair up not too shabbily.

So are there are colours that you go for instinctively?

  1. I really like the ruffle detail on your top, nice twist on a classic knit/ I tend to wear a lot of burgundy in winter too, it's a lovely colour that goes so well with other neutrals - especially the ones you're wearing and have mentioned :)

Hope you are having a lovely start to the week! :)

Thanks for your words about "13 reasons why". They really gave me a new perspectives on some of the flaws I saw in the series.
But I still think it would be important to emphasis that Hannah had some kind of depression/post-traumatic stress after the rape. Especially because it's mostly watched by teens. I guess most of the things that happened to her before the rape are things that a lot of people unfortunately experience in their teenage years. In some way I feel it's a bit dangerous to list these as reasons for suicide.

    1. I wholeheartedly agree with you. Some of us are able to dissect and look deeper but obviously a lot of the audience would be younger age and they will quite likely miss the nuances or interpret negatively!

I do think it'll make a great English study text in schools, whether the TV series or perhaps the book! What do you think?
